On the 9th and 10th of July 2005 Scottish Blaze visited Findhorn. Glorious Findhorn and it was glorious, it was sunny and very warm all weekend but on the downside there was very little wind. The Blaze traveller event was run in conjunction with Royal Findhorn annual Regatta, the Blaze being included in the fast handicap class, sailing alongside the National 18 Class and Phantoms etc. The top sailors from Scottish Blaze were at the event and despite the lack of wind which is not good Blaze weather the Blaze Class made a good showing of itself.
The first race on the Saturday was abandoned after once round the course which was rather disappointing as it was to be the best wind of the whole weekend. In the 2nd race of the day, the course was completed and it resulted in a 1st place for Bill Soudan. The 3rd race was also abandoned due to lack of wind and everyone headed back to the magnificent Yacht Club overlooking Findhorn Bay!
Sunday started also with no wind and it was a struggle just to get to the start line which was a mile or so offshore in the Moray Firth. The wind did arrive eventually but it was very light. Three races were run Peter Collings wining two and Bill Soudan winning the other. Despite the best attempts by the Blaze Class to do well in the regatta it was not to be with the National 18's dominating the top places except for a lone Merlin Rocket from Wormit which managed to get a third overall.
The Blazes managed to demolish the Phantoms which was at least some consolation considering the weather was in their favour. The top places for Blaze were 6th and 7th in the fast handicap overall. The final results for the Blaze travellers event are as below.
