Race Report Champion of Champions
I thought following the yachts and Yachting article on the Musto Scottish Champs of Champs, Blaze sailors may be interested to know how Mervyn and myself got on. Its worth noting the RYA in there wisdom for this event lowered the handicap of the Blaze from 1047 to 1040. There were also three fleets, slow, medium and fast and they merged the results together. I think the results were contrived because if you look at the top ten places, five are occupied by slow handicap boats.I hope this is not a sign of things to come and that the RYA are not planning a handicap change for the Blaze for the 2006 season. Please find attached the results and some photos of Mervyn Wright and myself. There was some consolation in that I shared 16th place with Ian Renilson (Former World Contender Champion) and managed to come in ahead of Kit Stenhouse (top female sailor and ex Olympic squad) who was 18th. Actually at the end of sailing on the Saturday I was running in 4th place which was a great advertisement for the Blaze bearing in mind that they had also reduced our handicap. It was a shame that I did not manage to consolidate my position on the Sunday. Mervyn also did extremely well considering the competition and I am sure he also has a few stories about the competition.The weekend was bitterly cold 4.5 degrees and very wet on the Saturday but I suppose it was the end of October.
